Partnering with parents in the discipleship of their children is a priority at Heritage. That is why we take Sunday morning very seriously. Every Sunday we engage our kids, infants through fifth grade, with the gospel in a fun and age appropriate way.
FAQs about Sunday Morning
What ages of children have Sunday morning classes?
We have environments for Babies through Fifth Grade. Preschool (Babies through PreK) and Elementary (Kindergarten through Fifth Grade) hear the gospel through worship, sound biblical teaching, games, and age appropriate activities. Sixth grade through High School attend the Worship Service unless they are serving in our Children’s Environments.
Is there curriculum that is provided?
Yes! We believe that consistency and repetition are important characteristics of a curriculum in order for children to internalize the content. At Heritage we use The Gospel Project curriculum which is a Christ-centered Bible study that shows how all scripture points to Jesus.
What does my family do upon arrival?
When you come in our Child Check-in entrance located at the West side of the building, you will see our Child Check-in area. The helpful volunteers will help you sign in your child for the first time. You will receive two stickers...one to place on your child’s back and the other for you to use when you pick up your child after service.
Where does my child go after check-in?
If your child is from birth-1st grade, he or she will go straight to their age appropriate environment (Babies, Toddlers, Two Year Olds, Threes, PreK, and K/1) located in the long hallway behind Child Check-in.
If your child is in Second through Fifth Grade, he or she will go in the Hideout which is the large room directly across from the Child Check-in area.
Where do I go to pick up my child?
All children will be picked up in their age appropriate environments, and will be picked up in the same environment where they were dropped off.
What if my child needs me while I’m in the service?
If your child needs you during the service, we will contact you by text/phone call through the number you provide on your child's nametag.
Do we need to bring anything with my baby while she or he is in the nursery?
We recommend parents bring a diaper bag and bottle/cup, both labeled with your child’s name. Feel free to bring any comfort items you baby might appropriate such as a blanket. Please bring a change of clothes for your baby just in case.
What is the procedure for moving preschoolers to the next environment?
In most cases, kids are moved to the next environment on promotion day in August. In some cases, we might move children up after their birthday. Babies move up to Toddlers when they are walking with stability.
Can I bring a snack from home for my child?
We will serve a snack of goldfish, Cheerios or animal crackers to each child in Twos, Threes, PreK and K/1 unless your child has a food allergy. In that case, please bring a snack for him or her. Babies and Toddlers need to have their own snack in a labeled container.
Do I need to let you know about my child’s food allergy?
Yes, please let us know during child check-in so it can be added to your child’s profile. It will then appear on his label. The first time you bring your child, please tell the small group leader about the allergy.
Is there a private area available for nursing mothers?
The Mother’s Room is located at the end of the children's hallway next to the door to the Worship Center.
What security measures are in place on Sunday morning?
We take the security of children very seriously. All volunteers 18 years of age and older must have attended Heritage for a minimum of six months, have completed a background check, support the Heritage belief statement and have completed training and observation.
Each child must be checked in upon arrival. Our check-in system ensures that children are only released to the person who checked them into the service as well as provide important information such as allergies. As such, we cannot release children to anyone other than the adult(s) on their nametag, so please make sure not to send anyone else to pick them up.
What is Family Worship?
At Heritage we want our elementary children to have opportunities to worship with their families in the Worship Service throughout the year. Each child will be provided a worship bag with materials to help him or her connect with the message.
Family Worship Services are typically on 5th Sundays of the month and holiday weekends. There will be signs at Child Check-in announcing a Family Worship service.
How do I disciple my child during the week with what they learned on Sunday?
Sunday morning is only one component of training up children to love the Lord their God with all their “heart, soul, and strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5) Because parents are the main spiritual influencer of their child’s faith, each Sunday they will be provided age appropriate resources that can be used during the week to promote conversation and deeper learning.
